Landline vs. Cell Unit
In today’s world, bundle packages seem like such a great deal! With these packages everything is tied in together. With that being said, if the cable goes out; you also lose your phone and internet as well. In this instance, if your security system runs off your landline, not only have you lost your cable, internet and phone but you have also lost communication with your security system. Security systems relying on a landline tend to cost more in the long run, out weighing the one-time cost of purchasing a cell unit.
With a cell unit, your security system runs on a separate, broader bandwidth than a cell line that your mobile phone operates off of. Although monitoring costs on a cell unit tend to be a little higher than on a landline, it serves you better off in the long run because of its added benefits. The monitoring on a cell unit is less likely to be compromised versus monitoring on a landline simply because in an event of the landline being cut or disconnected, there are no actual “lines” on a cell unit. Furthermore, on a landline, you take the risk of the line being tied up (with another call, etc.) while an emergency in your home may be taking place. You can think of a cell unit serving as an extra “insurance” on your home or business in the case of a fire. For example, if there was a storm and the storm knocked out your power, phone line, etc; more than likely the monitoring of your security system would be compromised with your phone line being disconnected. If in the same storm, lightning struck your home resulting in a fire; your home would be unprotected, leaving your valuables at risk of being a total loss. This would not be the case, with the investment in a cell unit instead of relying on a landline because the cell unit would have much more of a chance in communicating the fire than a busy or in active phone line.
